17 November 2009
I attended one of British Council programme in their Global Entrepeneur Week, Launching of Creative Movement. A movement pioneered by the alumni of IYCE 2009 finalist abaout how to make people aware of creative industry. And not just aware of it, but also motivated by it. With this programme hopefully can make a social bridge between society and the creative people. Because we all believe that all Indonesian people are creative people in their fields.
Strating the tiring day, we looked around the venue, Rasuna Epicentrum. It's an area with a full concept of modern urban lifestyle. This area provide spaces for residentials, office, leisure&pleasure, education, sports and transportation. The theme of this area is to raise up the creative side of market age between 20-30 years old working and living in Jakarta. Bakrie Tower will be their main icon building. It's a highrise office building with the building concept of "balerina", makes the building looks twisted. This area has 3 main access. I'm quite amazed by the concept. It's still under-construction, and I will come and see the finished one next time.
The launching event opened by Johansen from Aboday Architects. He's the winner of IYCE 2009 all the way to UK. Before we came to the main agenda, there were some presentation by few succesfull creative indusrty entrepeneurs in Indonesia. They came from various background of creative.
The first presenter was Dicky Kusuma. He's a fashion designer based in Bandung, west Java. Amazingly creative to won some fashion designer awards with his both defromed hands. He's background is from architecture but his business now is in street fashion industry. He believes that it's not fashion if it's can't reach the street, and I agree!! I must admit that he's a total visionar. He strongly believe in what he's doing will be good for people. It's an important value to run a creative indusrty.
Next presenter was Feby. He's again a fashion designer based in Bandung, West Java. His creative industry focus on skateboarders atribut as his main business. He believes that skateboard is more than a sport, it's also an art, art of life. He love skateboarding and seeing many Bandung people also love skateboarding. He adopt his experiences into a brand of industry. It's also an important value to run a creative indusrty.
Next presenter was Iim. She and his husband are running an online consulting agency. They started the business together when everyone was in the deep global economic crysis. Both are risktakers and it probably the important value to run a creative indusrty.
The next presenter was Irfan. He's a book adviser whose running the business based on society marketing. He trains and educates housewifes to learn how to sell books, and not just to sell, but also gives understanding about the important of reading books. He also trains the housewifes how to do online selling. His beliefs about long life learning programme shows that he care about the national future by giving the understanding of the importance of reading books. He also believe on the power of social networking, makes him a socialprenuer. It's quite proving that cause can also give profit. It's an important value to run a creative indusrty.
The next presenter was Jerry Aurum. He's a very talented photographer. He did so many interesting projects. He loves travelling, he believes that you have to travel and see the world to be more creative. One of his book is "In My Room", it's about the publick figures in their own bedrooms. From his presentation, I can clearly seen passion. He works with passion. It's an important value to run a creative indusrty.
The next presenter was Leyla. She's a product research consultant. www.damarwangi.com is a total solution provider. It's an important value to run a creative indusrty. Because most of the time people comes to creative industry is to find a solution.
The last presenter was phaeryl Maveic Musadi. He's the founder of Yayasan Adikaka. It's a foundation specialty in the kids&teenagers development. He runs the "Never Grow Up Campange" and then named his foundation as The Neverland. It's a play area for kids, with some education values that hopefully can change their future. He's been in his rises and falls for several times in running this foundation, but however he's strongly believe that when we care about our children, they will give us more and more without we even realise or even hope for it. Children are pure, they're like a blank canvas and it depends on us to put colours in them. This is the most presentation that I like. He teached us an atitude of persistent. It's potentially to be the most important value to run a creative indusrty.
After those presenters, we had a lecture about running a creative industry and how to deal with it. The lecturer also teach us how to create a business plan for a creative industry. Because if we only based on our creativity, without understanding about the business plan, it seems useless. Funny because apparently that's the issues that me&my partners facing right now. So more or less it has gave me a new understanding.
The other lecturer also important. He's an Intellectual Property Rights Adviser. He said, we as designer must give more respect about the Intelectual Property Rights. It's the rules that control the product piracy. Not just in Indonesia, but also in world wide. I would like to talk further about this, but time's ticking out.
After a quite refreshing speed-networking simulation, we had a short break to prepare for the next agenda, talkshow.
The talkshow invited two famous creative industry entrepeneurs in Indonesia : Oscar Lawalata and Sakti (Fictionary Films). The talkshow moderated by Ridwan Kamil, one of the leadings architects in Indonesia also a winner of IYCE 2008. It talked about their current projects. Oscar Lawalata currently focusing onto bringing up the Songket (famous traditional handmade fabrics) to the world wide fashion industry. While Sakti currently focusing onto his movie about "Made In Indonesia" to bring up the good value of Indonesia to the world.
Finally we came to the main agenda : The Creative Movement Launching. This movement was founded by the finalist of IYCE 2009.
The whole agenda today really inspired me so much. I'm really proud that there are still many young entrepeneurs who cares about Indonesian's future. They're very brave and humble. I love them all.
So guys, if you're a creative Indonesian, please join us in www.creativemovement.org
